Activities held to provide better care for children

Many activities were held across Vietnam on June 1 on the occasion of International Children’s Day and the Action Month for Children. The steering board for public health care and protection target programme of northern Ha Nam province organised numerous delegations to visit and present gifts to local children, and supervise the implementation of Micronutrient Day. On this occasion, the province offers vitamin A supplements to 52,100 children aged from 6-36 months old. The provincial Department of Labour - Invalids and Social Welfare launched the Action Plan for Children, with the aim to provide support for poor children and those who are victims of violence and abuse.

The central province of Ninh Thuan also launched the Action Month for Children on the day. During the month, the locality will intensify communications to improve the public’s awareness and responsibility of preventing the negative impact of digital technology on the comprehensive development of children as well as violence and abuse against children.
Provincial leaders and representatives of local departments presented over 2,800 gifts to local children living in difficulties. In NinhThuan southern province, the local authorities launched the Action Month for Children under the theme ‘For a safe and healthy life for children in the digital world’ which intended to limit the negative impacts of the digital world on children’s development while educating children about the safe and healthy use of digital technologies.
Celebrating International Children’s Day, the Hon Tam Bien Nha Trang Joint Stock Company and Khai Vy Group Joint Stock Company co-organised the sixth festival for children with disabilities. The event in south central province of Khanh Hoa attracted the participation of nearly 600 disabled students and 200 teachers from 40 schools of 24 cities and provinces from Quang Binh to Ca Mau.
Within the framework of the third International Children Festival VTV 2018 held in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, from May 29 to June 3, 120 children from eight nations are scheduled to participate in activities such as a “Green Earth” art gala, visits to an aquarium, a safari park and a water park and group activities.
The southern province of Hau Giang held a ceremony to observe the Action Month for Children and announced the establishment of the Management Board of the provincial system of child protection and launched a network to connect with the National Switchboard 111 on child protection.
Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dong Van Thanh asked local authorities to step up communications in the community, families and schools on the right of children to participate in children-related issues, on child protection and on impact of violence and abuse behaviours on children.
The province is home to about 2,400 children living in special circumstances and nearly 25,000 poor children.
In Hanoi, a series of cultural and heritage education activities was launched at the Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature) on June 1 which offered children useful summer activities, folk games, and folk art performances in addition to activities to educate children of the national culture and heritage.
The programme will take place during three months of the summer with the aim of providing an educational playground for Hanoi’s children.
In the central province of Khanh Hoa, local enterprises held a three-day festival for children with disabilities which attracted 600 disadvantaged children and 200 teachers from 40 schools in 24 provinces and cities from Quang Binh to Ca Mau.
The International Children Festival VTV 2018 was also organised in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province on June 1 with the participation of 120 children from eight countries including Vietnam, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the Philippines, Thailand, and China.
Meanwhile, Quang Nam and Ha Nam provinces presented gifts to disadvantaged children.
Many other localities throughout the country also held meaningful activities to care for children during the Action Month for Children 2018.
Earlier on May 27, the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs launched the 2018 action month for children, themed “For children’s safe and healthy living” in the northern province of Phu Tho to promote children’s rights to protection, respect and living in a safe and healthy environment.
During the action month, the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs will hold events and activities to support children in need. It plans to hold children’s forums, entertainment activities and free medical checkups for children and at the same time, provide those in need with scholarships and deformity correction surgeries.
Meanwhile, the National Fund for Vietnamese Children will allocate more than 14 billion VND (616,000 USD) to support about 5,000 children from difficult backgrounds across the country.
The action month aims to raise public awareness of a wide range of child-related issues through a number of messages, including children’s safe and healthy living, a safe and healthy summer for children, summer without child drowning, listen to children, protect children, calling 111 to report violence against children and child abuse, using social media for the safe and healthy life of children and more.
