At the working session, the Minister Dao Ngoc Dung highly appreciated the role of Mr. Desmond Lee as the Chairman of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Council in 2018 with many important initiatives, especially initiatives related to youth and sport, initiative related to connect the ASEAN Smart Cities Network. The Minister Dao Ngoc Dung also expressed his support for Singapore's initiatives in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community and affirmed that Vietnam has always worked closely with Singapore on ASEAN common forums, including channels: The Social and Cultural Community, the Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development, the Ministerial Conference on Women as well as the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) for the Committee of Women and Children ASEAN. The two ministers also discussed on the enhancement of the effectiveness of cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
On the occasion, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung informed to Mr. Desmond Lee some preparations of Vietnam to organize the 3rd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Women in September 2018 and invited the Minister Desmond Lee to the meeting.
At the same day, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung had a visit to Institute of technical education Singapore (ITE). At the meeting, ITE’s representatives introduced the overall on vocational education system in Singapore. Accordingly, vocational education system of Singapore has 2 components and annually, the system has attracted 65% high school graduators.
It’s known that currently, ITE has educated more than 100 professions in many fields with the modern equipped facilities, practical factories, ensuring minimum of 30% education schedule is practical environment at enterprises with all professions, including the profession requiring high skill such as maintainance, repair plane, automation, robotics in 4.0 industrial era.
Besides teaching, vocational training for students, ITE is also the agency involved in national vocational skills standards system development, assessment and issue national vocational skills certification in order to serve the work of strengthening the competitiveness of human resources in Singapore.
Mr. Bruce Poh, Executive Director of ITE, said that Singapore Government has a policy to link the responsibility and the participation of relevant ministries to the development of skilled human resources in the country and linking the truth and effectiveness of the industry with vocational training, including the tighted collaboration between three ministries, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Human Resources and the Ministry of Education in forecasting the development of the economy, the need for human resources development, employment and the need to train skilled workers in the future.
At the meeting, Minister Dao Ngoc Dung proposed that ITE continued to cooperate with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Vocational Education Institutions in Vietnam in the training and development of skilled human resources in the future. Mr. Bruce Poh, on behalf of the ITE Board of Directors thanked Minister Dao Ngoc Dung and the delegation from the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs of Viet Nam for their interest in and commited to continue cooperating with the Directorate of Vocational Education in the following years.
The bilateral visit and work of Minister Dao Ngoc Dung during the visit will be an important foundation for enhancing the cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore in the field of social development, vocational education in particular, and contribute to the building of ASEAN socio-cultural community self-reliant and sustainable development in the near future.
